Dead body of a 41-year-old recovered from a drain in Meherpur
Today morning at about 8 o’clock, locals of Meherpur area spotted a body in the drain located next to LIC head office right opposite flour mill. The body happens to be of a 41-year-year old citizen, Raju Das, son of late Kanai Das.
Police sources informed us that Raju Das was a resident of Ramkrishna Sarani of National Highway Road area in Silchar. After locals spotted the body in the morning they informed Rangirkhari Police station. The Police then rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the drain.
Soon after that Raju Das’ family members were informed, his younger brother Rakesh Das reached the spot and identified the dead body. Rakesh Das informed that his elder brother Raju Das had left the residence last morning and did not return home since then. Rakesh also informed that Raju was an alcohol addict and used to drink almost every day.
Police meanwhile suspect that Raju might have slipped of the road while drunk and fell in the ditch. Barak Valley is facing heavy rainfall and all the drains are overflowing, in such a scenario slipping to a drain while drunk could have been the reason for his death.
The police sources informed us that there are no physical marks on Raju Das’ body which could hint at a murder. However Police is not ruling out anything at this stage and they maintained that they will have better clue once the post mortem report is out. There is another rumour that Raju Das used to work as a driver for an ADC, while there is no clarity on the name of the ADC or if he was presently employed there, police too is looking into the matter.
