Dead body of a female found floating in Narshingtola pond; Police suspect murder or suicide
Tragic turn of affairs left heart of Silchar town in dismay. A stone throw away from Central Road, in Narshingtola pond, floating body of a lady was discovered last evening. As per sources in Police, the deceased is identified as Monty Das. 30-year-old Monty is a resident of Das Colony’s Sanghati lane. Sources also revealed that Monty Das was missing since Sunday afternoon, in fact her husband even filed a missing diary in Rangirkhari police station on Sunday evening. Husband Amit Das reached Narshingtola and identified the dead body and claimed it to be of his wife Monty Das.
At around six in the evening, locals spotted something unusual in the pond and they immediately rushed to see what it was. To their disbelief, it happened to be a floating human body. The locals informed the local police station, and police along with NRDF reached the spot and recovered the body.
Additional police superintindent Rakesh Reddy refused to speculate or draw conclusions regarding the cause of the death. However, Reddy did not rule out chances of murder or suicide. He said that the body is sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem, and only after that they will have a clearer picture.
Municipality ward Commissioner Birabrata Roy requested police to check CCTV footages of various cameras installed across Narshingtola area in order to move faster with the investigation.
