Dear DIPR Assam, our news is not fake; Here is how

Yesterday, we carried the story on the latest update of COVID-19 cases in Assam (Read here). With one more case being detected in Dhubri, the total cases in the state rose to 36, including one death and 19 recoveries.

Today, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Assam posted on its official social media platforms claiming the news to be fake. The tweet even tagged the honorable chief minister of Assam, Minister of Health, and other senior dignitaries.

We rest the case for our readers to decide if we are fake or not. We stand by our report.

The information displayed in the story has been quoted from the Aarogya Setu App and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Here are the screenshots of both.

We tried calling the DIPR Assam’s office after checking the tweet and the officials asked us to check the NHM data. Here is what we see when we check the NHM website. Please watch the video.

 

It was communicated that we must refer to the government’s official data before putting up any story. We have stated what the government states. If the number is wrong and the news is fake, then is the data on the government of India websites also fake?

It is also clear that the DIPR’s office is coming after the smaller players. A number of national news channels and print publications and their digital platforms have published the same news, yet they choose to pin Barak Bulletin’s news as fake.
