
Despite all enforcement drives, scientist dies after car crashes in Kalain Road
2020 ended with one of the deadliest accidents in recent times. NC College students died after their Maruti Suzuki Alto met with an accident. Five students were killed and several pillars of the administration assured a collective effort to reduce the number of accidents in Kalain Road.
The series of accidents continued in 2021 too. Many accidents and many deaths were reported from Kalain road. Former MLA, Rumi Nath recently joined hands with the protesters and blocked the National Highway for at least three hours. The Circle Officer rushed to the spot, discussed the matter with the former MLA and eventually the blockade was withdrawn. The Circle Officer noted the demands which included compensation to the kin of the disease and installations of speed breakers at key points.
To ensure zero deaths on New Years’ Eve, the Assam Government intensified the drive against drink and drive. Several checkpoints were set up at various parts of the State including in the Cachar district. Task forces were set up to ensure enforcement. Despite all of that, a car met with an accident late last night and early today morning.
As per available information, at around 1:00 am, at Amtala area located under NijJoynagar, Kumarpara GP, a speeding car missed the turn and crashed into a tree. The impact was so huge that the driver lost his life on the spot. There was another individual in the car who could not be identified but was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
If the deceased is carrying his own driving license then his name is Abhijit Bardhan, son of Ashutosh Bardhan and resident of Sematilla Colony in Dimapur, Nagaland. However, locals identified him to be a resident of Jorhat.
According to the 108 emergency team that rushed both to hospital, the deceased is a scientist associated Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Arunachal Branch and the one critical is an engineer.
The 108 team also informed that the doctors suspect both of them were drunk when they met with the accident.
