Devastating fire in Silchar; Two houses gutted in Saratpally, fire brigade could not pass through narrow roads

A massive fire broke in Silchar’s Saratpally area. Today evening at around 7:00 pm, locals of the Uttaranchal Para, in Saratpally spotted flames coming out of a house. Within a short span of time, the flames grew bigger and so did the devastation.

Four families were residing in two houses and both have burnt to ashes. As per locals, the fire broke at the kitchen of Monotosh Paul when his daughter went to cook dinner. According to her, as soon as she switched on the knob of her stove, the cylinder caught fire.

Dulal Paul, Ratan Paul and Ranjit Das lived in the house with their respective family members. Dulal Paul tried to douse the fire but in the process got severly injured. The locals informed the Fire and Emergency Services about the huge fire. One Engine rushed to the spot but it could not pass through the narrow lane of Uttaranchal Para in Saratpally.

Two smaller engines followed and only one could reach the source of the fire. At around 8:00 pm, after an hour of efforts, the fire was under control. But it was too little too late as the two houses burnt to ashes. Highlighting the issue of narrow roads, the locals raised a demand that the roads must be expanded soon as similar accidents could take place in future too.
