Development of Assam Impossible Without Barak Valley: CM Sarma

Ahead of the upcoming Panchayat Election, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Barak Valley and today, on 26 April, he addressed a large election rally at Hatichera playground in Cachar district. During the event, he campaigned for the BJP candidates contesting for various Anchalik Panchayat and Zila Parishad seats.

Speaking about Barak Valley, the Chief Minister said that the development of Assam would not be possible without the progress of Barak Valley. He announced that work on the new flyover in Silchar town would commence within this year. He further mentioned that the process of land acquisition would soon begin and urged the public to cooperate with the project. Sarma stressed the importance of Barak Valley, saying it plays a crucial role in the overall development of the state.

Referring to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister said that India would hunt down terrorists from Pakistan wherever they hide across the world. He gave a strong message that terrorists would not be spared, no matter where they are.

Addressing the issue of Pakistan supporters within Assam, Chief Minister Sarma warned that anyone who benefits from India yet expresses support for Pakistan would face imprisonment. He stated that the government is actively identifying and taking strict action against Pakistan sympathisers across the state. His remarks come in the backdrop of several individuals being arrested recently for allegedly posting pro-Pakistan content on social media.

“My fight is against those who hold pro-Pakistan and pro-Bangladeshi sentiments. We will take the toughest possible stance against sympathisers of Pakistan and the current ruler of Bangladesh,” said Chief Minister Sarma.

The Chief Minister also took a swipe at the Congress party, questioning whether they intended to halt welfare schemes like Arunodoi and distribute lungis instead. He further announced that an additional 5,000 beneficiaries would soon be added to the Arunodoi scheme in each of the six constituencies of Cachar district.

Speaking about Muslim voters, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted that Muslims have been receiving the benefits of all government schemes, including Arunodoi and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He remarked that, as Muslims are availing the same advantages as others, there should be no reason for them not to support the BJP.
