Dholai Family Transfers Dead body In Auto Rickshaw; Allege Overnight Wait Didn't Help Find An Ambulance

The real picture of development in the state came to light on the day of Dholai By-Elections. The date: November 13, 2024. On the very day of the by-elections, which saw a surge of political activity in Dholai, a heartbreaking scene unfolded that brought the area’s infrastructural shortcomings into sharp focus. A grieving family from Sukhtala village in Dholai, unable to secure an ambulance, was forced to transport a deceased family member from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) back to their home in an auto-rickshaw.

This tragic incident exposed the limitations of medical and emergency services despite claims of significant development in the area. The BJP has been vocal in highlighting its commitment to Dholai’s growth, pouring resources into regaining their victory in the constituency. However, for the family affected, these promises fell short on the day they needed assistance most.

As per Barak Bulletin’s conversation with the bereaved family, they waited through the night at the medical college, hoping for an ambulance to carry the dead body of their loved family member back home in Sukhtala village of Bhubandahar in Dholai.

But when no ambulances were available by the morning, they had no choice but to hire a passenger auto-rickshaw. In a sombre procession, three family members travelled with the body in the back seat, a scene that highlighted the struggle of everyday citizens in the midst of the region’s political spectacle.

With the by-elections underway across five constituencies in the state, the image of this family’s plight served as a stark reminder of the urgent need for accessible healthcare services—a gap that, for some in Dholai, was made painfully evident on a day meant to celebrate democracy.
