Dholai man mysteriously found dead few days after wife elopes with neighbour

In a shocking incident, a man named Dhiren Roy from Rukni Part IV (Ujangram) village of Dormikhal GP under East Dholai allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday, a few days after his wife eloped with their neighbour. It has been alleged that the man committed suicide as the Palonghat Police did not take appropriate measures.

According to sources, Paresh Roy’s married son Pritam Roy had eloped with Pratima Roy, Dhiren’s wife, on April 6. Dhiren Roy informed the police about the matter next day and filed an FIR at Palonghat Police Outpost accusing Pritam Roy.

However, on Wednesday early morning, Dhiren Roy’s dead body was found hanging from a tree near his house. It is suspected that he committed suicide out of anger and shame after his wife ran away with their neighbour.

The Palonghat Police, in the presence of Sonai Circle Magistrate Bikash Chhetri, recovered Dhiren Roy’s dead body and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. The incident has raised questions about the police’s appropriate measures in dealing with the case.

Though initially, the incident seems to be a case of suicide, the police have started an investigation to see if there is any other angle to it.
