Director of Green Heals Hospital - Rudra Narayan Gupta, Dr. Monika Deb test COVID Positive

One of Barak Valley’s renowned industrialists, director of Green Heals Hospital, Rudra Narayan Gupta has tested COVID positive. Along with him, Dr. Monika Dev and three others associated with the hospital have also tested positive. He was one among many who were tested because they could have possibly come in contact with Dr. Orina Raha who was diagnosed with Coronavirus infection on July 1.

“All of us who are associated with the health sector at this hour are susceptible, will fight it out,” said Gupta while speaking with Barak Bulletin. He added that he does not have any symptoms at this stage.

“I have made an extensive list of people whom I could have come in contact with in the last seven days. I will hand it over to the administration,” added Gupta.

He is of the opinion that Cachar has entered the early stages of community spread and it is very difficult to guess who is a potential carrier of the virus. “There is no point blaming Dr. Orina Raha, we, who are in the health sector meet so many people every day and it is just impossible to understand who is COVID positive as most are asymptomatic,” he asserted.

Dr. Monika Deb also said there is nothing to worry about. As a gynecologist, she says, she has very little room to delay treatment. “You cannot keep a to-be-mother waiting in labour pain to find out if she is COVID positive,” she says.

“I have attended outdoor patients department in Jeevan Jyoti Hospital, Green Heals Hospital and checked patients in Silchar Medical College too. All these are professionally run establishments and it is easy to find the people who have come in contact with as the records are always maintained,” she said assuring all sorts of cooperation with the administration.

When known names are found infected by the virus the panic rises among general people. Silchar MP, Rajdeep Roy, however, said there is no need to panic. “We are observing some earlier symptoms of a community spread in the district. The administration will discuss the matter and take necessary measures,” assured Silchar MP.

He said Dr. Monika Dev, Rudra Narayan Gupta and other staffers of Green Heals Hospital will be treated in Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

A total of 12 patients tested positive in the first lot released by Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
