District Administration Cachar to Host Grand 79th Independence Day Celebration With Day-Long Patriotic Events

The District Administration, Cachar, is all set to roll out a grand day-long programme on August 15 to mark the 79th Independence Day, blending patriotic fervour with cultural pride, sports and community spirit.

Festivities will begin at dawn, with patriotic music filling the streets from 5:30 AM through the fixed loudspeaker system and mobile van by the Regional office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar. Flag-hoisting will follow in private residences and institutions at 7 AM and in government offices, schools, and colleges at 7:30 AM. At 8:00 AM, a colourful student procession will march towards the District Sports Association (DSA) ground, accompanied by heads of educational institutions and school inspectors.

Tributes to the nation’s heroes will be paid with wreath-laying ceremonies at Gandhibagh, first at Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait and then at the martyrs’ altar. The main celebration at the DSA ground will begin at 9:00 AM, with the official hoisting of the Tricolour by the distinguished guest, followed by a combined parade by the 6th Assam Police Battalion, District Police, CRPF, NCC, Scouts and Guides, Home Guards, and students.

Later in the day, the spirit of service will shine through fruit and sweet distributions at hospitals, orphanages, and care homes, organised by civic bodies and trade associations, including the Silchar Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and Rotary Club, among others. The Central Jail and Red Cross Hospital will also receive special visits.

A community lunch will be hosted at 1:00 PM, and sports lovers can look forward to a friendly football match between District Administration XI and District Bar Association XI at 4:30 PM at the DSA ground. The flag will be lowered with full honour at 5:53 PM, and government buildings, along with statues of eminent personalities, will be illuminated at 6:00 PM, bringing the celebrations to a glowing close.

The administration has urged citizens to take part in the events and make the Independence Day celebrations a true reflection of unity, patriotism, and pride in the nation’s achievements.
