District administration clamps 144 around Bethukandi dyke; "No assembly of more than 4, no stopping of vehicle"
Cachar district administration clamps 144 Cr. PC around the Bethukandi dyke. As the water level of river, Barak rose past 17.00 metre at Annapurna Ghat in Silchar, still below the danger level of 19.83 m, the administration has started safeguarding the Bethukandi dyke that was allegedly breached by human interventions resulting in the unprecedented deluge of 2022.
“In view of the heavy rainfall and ongoing monsoon season it has been made to appear to the undersigned (Antara Sen, ACS, Addl. District Magistrate, Cachar), that there may emerge situation due to erosion of land, etc in and around Bethukandi Sluice Gate which may lead to incidents causing loss of life and property and whereas there it has become an immediate necessity to prevent such sporadic occurrences,” states the letter.
I Antara Sen, ACS, Addl. District Magistrate, Cachar, Silchar in exercise of the powers conferred upon her under Section 144 Cr. PC ordered that, “No assembly of more than 04(four) persons should be allowed within 100 metres.”
It added, “There shall be no restriction on plying of vehicles. However, no vehicle is permitted to stop on the dyke.” It also adds, “For emergency purposes alone, the concerned may seek permission from the Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Silchar. In view of the urgency of the matter, this order has been made exparte and will remain in force until further orders.”
The same has been notified to the Superintendent of Police, Cachar to enforce the restrictions clamped by the administration.
