District Administrations eviction drive in Silchar; “#SafeSilchar” posts DC

Cachar District Administration continues its eviction drive in Silchar. Yesterday, under the supervision of District Administration, Cachar Police and PWD, illegal constructions on footpaths were bulldozed throughout the day.

“Steps were taken to clear the passage surrounding Court complex, Post Office towards Cachar College point via Sadarghat. The initiative was coordinated by DDMA Cachar,” posts the official DC Cachar account on Facebook.

“As we passed through the Capital Travels office we saw massive JCBs uprooting the shops and other constructions built on the footpath. The same was happening near Khudiram Bose’s statue,” says a resident who witnessed the eviction drive.

The District Administration informed that the eviction drive will continue today too, “To reduce traffic congestion and minimise the accident in the town. Safe Silchar for common citizen and to keep the passage near the offices & enclave of Silchar, an eviction drive was carried out by District Administration Cachar along with Police and PWD officials.” DC Cachar’s Facebook post adds.

Local residents wholeheartedly welcomed the administration’s step to conduct an eviction drive in Silchar, “There is no footpath to walk on in Silchar. So pedestrians end up walking on the road, it is a great step by the administration and they must know they have public support,” says a senior citizen.
