District Magistrate Decrees Section 144 in Cachar
To execute smooth conduct of the election process, the District Magistrate Cachar has decreed various restrictions under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code for quick remedy and immediate prevention of disturbances of peace and tranquillity. A circular issued in Silchar on Tuesday restricted get-togethers of more than five individuals in the 100-meter territory of the workplaces of Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers of Silchar, Sonai, Dholai, Udharbondh, Lakhipur, Borkhola and Katigora constituencies.
Supporters who are with the candidates at the time of submission of nomination papers cannot go to that area. Besides, it has been mentioned in the notification that no more than two vehicles can be allowed in that area. It has also been decreed in the notification that no more than two individuals can be present with the candidate while submitting the nomination papers.
The District Administration has already toned up its preparation in spreading election awareness and wooing voters, especially in remote rural areas. And, the contesting candidates have already started filing their nominations with a few constituencies yet to get their candidature’s names. Now, it remains to be seen what effect does this move of the District Magistrate manifest on the civilians, i.e, the voters.
