Dr. Himabrata Das shares moments from his visit to Mahabhoirab Mandir in Tezpur

On an auspicious rainy Monday evening, devotees thronged the iconic Mahabhoirab Mandir here in Tezpur.

The passionate chants of “Jai Mahadev” and “Jai Shiv Sambhu” resonated through the road leading to the deity. It was choc-a-bloc with the spirit of reverie and festivity permeating the holy premises.

There were happy faces all around and the atmosphere was electric. After bowing down to the Shiva Linga in the inner sanctum, devotees poured milk and bilvapatra over the Lord’s symbol. On their way back, they performed a ritual that bemused the stranger.

They whispered into Nandyji’s right ear their wishes in the hope that those will get forwarded to Bholanath.

At 8pm, the main gates closed for the elaborate rituals that would go on all night. There was positivity in the crowd as they left; some empty-handed and some roaring into the night sky with vuvuzelas in hand. There were a few rustling sounds as the clouds collided in Kailash. The night belonged to Mahakal-the Grand Master of electricity!!!!
