Drainage better than before but still not good enough; Silchar under water once again
This is the season when Assam experiences heavy rainfall and like whole of the state, Barak Valley too suffers from the issue of water logging in various areas.
Heavy rainfall from today morning has led to serious water logging in various important areas of Silchar town. Roads in NS Avenue, Sonai Road, Shillongpatty are still underwater, and vehicles are facing immense trouble driving over those roads.
Indian meteorological department has issued a warning that Assam along with other North Eastern states will face heavy to very heavy rainfall in next couple of days. Water level of all the rivers surrounding Barak Valley are very much below the danger level, it is only the rain water which is creating trouble for the citizens at this stage.
District Administration and municipality corporation have worked their best to improve the existing drainage system in Cachar district. Drains which were left abandoned for last 40 years also got cleaned this year. The conditions have improved and are far better then what it used to be but yet this is not enough to restrict water logging.
