Driver of a truck brutally beaten by mob in Malugram for running over a cat

At around 9:30 tonight, a truck was headed towards Silchar town from Malugraṃ. While on the move, it accidentally ran over a running cat. Locals saw the cat dying and immediately stopped the truck. As per available information, the driver was pulled out of the vehicle and brutally beaten by a local mob.

An eyewitness said that four-five boys, who are local residents abused the truck driver and started beating him mercilessly. “The truck driver started bleeding as they hit him on the head with a bottle of beer. Others were beating him with rods and they continued until he fell flat on road,” said the eyewitness who informed the local police outpost.

The truck driver has been identified as Motin Laskar, he is a resident of the Haticherra area. As per the information gathered, he drives for a construction company. They purchased a new truck and the owner sent him to Malugram Shiva Temple to get blessings from God before using it commercially. That is why the Motin drove to Malugram and was on his way back when he ran over a running cat.

After getting information about the incident, the local police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the driver. “We have sent him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment and looking into the matter. The situation is normal now,” said the officer in charge of Malugram Police Station.

Locals, who have seen the driver said his condition is critical and the way he was torture for accidentally running over a cat is “inhumane.”
