Drug Bust in Cachar: Cachar Police Seize 10.333 Kilograms from 60 Soap Cases

In a significant operation, the Cachar Police, acting on credible intelligence, successfully intercepted a large consignment of narcotic substances on the night of May 18, 2024. The operation was conducted at the Silchar-Aizawl Bypass near Atalbasti, Silchar, resulting in the apprehension of three individuals and the seizure of substantial quantities of heroin.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Daniel C. Lalchandama (32 years), S/O Laldinmawia, Zemabawk, PS – Bawngkawn, Aizawl, Mizoram; Laltalnzova (31 years), S/O Lalhamingthanga, Sivimveng, PS – Champhai, Mizoram; and Miss Malsawmengi (36 years), W/O Laltalnzova, Sivimveng, PS – Champhai, Mizoram.

During the operation, police recovered nine black leather bags containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 8.786 kilograms and 60 soap cases suspected to contain heroin weighing about 1.547 kilograms. This results in a total seizure of 10.333 kilograms of heroin. Additionally, a Hyundai I-10 vehicle bearing registration number MZO1N/4073, used in the illegal transportation, has been seized.

SP, Cachar, Numal Mahatta addressing media stated “during this operation, we apprehended one woman and two men. From their possession, we recovered nine black leather bags suspected to contain heroin, weighing approximately 8.786 kilograms, and 60 soap cases, also suspected to contain heroin, weighing about 1.547 kilograms.”

The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around 105 crores in the black market. Initial investigations reveal that the consignment was being transported illegally from Champai district of Mizoram. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.

SP, Cachar, Numal Mahatta, further stated, “this operation highlights our commitment to combating the illegal narcotics trade. The successful interception and seizure of such a large quantity of heroin is a testament to the diligence and dedication of our officers. We will continue to work relentlessly to curb the trafficking of illegal substances and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The Cachar Police remains steadfast in its mission to maintain law and order and safeguard the community from the dangers of narcotics. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. Recently, similar drug busts were conducted in Karimganj region where the Karimganj Police seized 350.9 grams of heroin from 29 soap boxes and arrested two suppliers.
