Drug Haul Worth Rs 4 Crore in Karimganj Leads to Arrest of Mastermind Jabrul Hoque

An anti-narcotics operation conducted at Chewali Beel along BVCL Road, under Badarpur Police Station, resulted in the interception of a vehicle carrying a large consignment of heroin. The vehicle, bearing registration number MZ 01D 7755, was found to contain 548.82 grams of heroin concealed in a secret chamber. The seizure was packed in 48 soap boxes.

Four individuals were apprehended during the operation:

1. Abdul Basit (25), son of late Jalal Uddin, resident of Eraligool Ahmedpur, Patharkandi

2. Faizul Haque (26), son of Badrul Islam, resident of Eraligool Ahmedpur, Patharkandi

3. Taj Uddin, son of Kabir Uddin, resident of Eraligool Ahmedpur

4. Nahim Uddin (31), son of late Ajijur Rahman, resident of Eraligool Ahmedpur, Patharkandi

The vehicle was reportedly coming from Aizawl, Mizoram.

The operation was led by Superintendent of Police Karimganj, Partha Protim Das, IPS. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, lauded the efforts of the Karimganj Police on social media, stating: “Based on reliable input, an anti-narcotics operation was conducted by Karimganj Police at Chewali Beel where a vehicle coming from a neighbouring State was intercepted & 548.82 grams of heroin was recovered. Four persons have been apprehended. Good job Assam Police.”

According to police sources, the seized drugs have an estimated market value of Rs 4 crore.

In a follow-up investigation, SP Partha Protim Das confirmed the arrest of Jabrul Hoque, a major drug dealer listed in police records. Jabrul, a resident of Bazarghat under Ratabari Police Station, was identified as one of the masterminds behind the smuggling attempt.

During the arrest, the police faced resistance from Jabrul’s family members. Two police officers sustained minor injuries, and the accused injured his knees while attempting to flee. Backup forces were called in, and the accused was successfully arrested after a chase.

A separate case has been registered under Section 121 BNS.
