Drug peddler caught in Karimganj
A drug peddler was nabbed by residents and handed over to police in south Assam’s Karimganj district on Saturday.
The peddler Amir Uddin (32) hails from Elaspur village in Karimganj district.
Sources said residents caught Amir Uddin on Nagaria-Elaspur road around 10:30 am in the morning. Locals, after getting suspicious by Amir’s body language while he was travelling through the road on a motor-cycle, chased him and beat him on finding some drugs with him.
He was later handed over to Baroigram police.
Bulk of the residents alleged that Amir, apart from illegal drug sale, was involved in many other criminal activities like theft and dacoity. Youth Congress leader and a resident of ward number-III, Elaspur GP – Amirul Hussain alleged that Amir was involved in a theft which took place at Hussain’s house on Wednesday night.
Strict action should be taken against Amir and his accomplices be apprehended at the earliest, he said.
An official of Baroigram police said more than 200 empty containers were recovered from Amir’s possession. It is being investigated who are his accomplices in the criminal activities and also whether he was involved in the theft on Wednesday night, he said.
