DSA BGM: Ruling Party Prepares Draft of Nominees, with Bijendra Prasad Singh Eyeing General Secretary and MLA Dipayan Chakraborty for President

After extensive deliberations, the ruling party in the BJP-belt has finalized a draft of nominees set to compete for various positions in the upcoming BGM (Biennial General Meeting) of the Silchar District Sports Association (DSA). Notably, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty is eagerly vying for the coveted president’s position, seeking redemption after his defeat in the previous BGM at the hands of incumbent President Babul Hore. However, circumstances have since changed, as Chakraborty emerged victorious in the Silchar MLA election, securing a resounding mandate.

While Dipayan Chakraborty’s name has been prominently put forth by the BJP camp for the presidency, putting an end to all speculations, it is confirmed that Bijendra Prasad Singh, the General Secretary of DSA, will run for re-election. Singh triumphed over Atanu Bhattacharjee in the previous BGM to assume the role of secretary.

The prepared draft also includes nominations for other key positions. The Vice-President slot has been assigned to the Lakhipur MLA, and additional candidates such as Siddhartha Shankar Bhattacharjee, Ajay Chakraborty, Ratan Singh, Nandadulal Roy, and Mridul Mazumdar have emerged as potential contenders. For the Assistant Secretary roles, the draft includes Debashish Shome (Administration), Chandan Sarma, and Arijit Gupta, while Animesh Sengupta has been nominated for the Treasurer position. Notably, Niranjan Das, the trusted aide of Bijendra Prasad Singh, will seek re-election as the Cricket Secretary. However, the favorite for the Football Secretary position, replacing Bikash Das, is Uttam Choudhury, the preferred candidate of the ruling party.

This initial draft represents the ruling party’s strategic outline. However, it is essential to note that Subimal Dhar, a seasoned sports administrator who has served in various sports committees under the ruling party, holds the potential to disrupt the established plans. Dhar’s intentions remain undecided, as sources within the BJP suggest that he may seek the presidency or abstain from the DSA elections altogether. The current draft nominates Dhar for the position of Vice-President.

Meanwhile, Silchar is grappling with the issue of overflowing drainage water. Consequently, the ruling party treads cautiously, aware that publicly announcing Dipayan Chakraborty’s bid for the DSA presidency might generate backlash. Consequently, they intend to keep Chakraborty’s nomination low-key and reveal it closer to the event, on the ‘D’-Day.

In response, the Babul Hore lobby is formulating counterstrategies to challenge the influential draft prepared by the ruling party.
