Durand Cup experience will come handy for Silchar's Sampow

The 131st Durand Cup has been a learning experience for the North East United FC. The first match’s captain was Silchar’s Sampow Rongmei, who lost to the Odisha team with a huge difference of 6-0 goals. Along with Sampow, Alfred from Lakhipur was also a part of the team. Even though the performance improved in the second match, the North East couldn’t win against Army Green.

In the second match against Army Green, the North East lost with a difference of 3-1 goals. Even though the home team couldn’t win a single match in the Durand Cup, the management of the team is taking it in a positive way. The management is of the opinion that the reserve team played in Durand keeping in mind the future tournaments. The objective was to make a strong reserve and a strong bench for the upcoming Indian Super League.

Young footballers from Silchar said they couldn’t perform their best form in the two matches. But they gained good experience from the matches. Silchar’s Jianchun Romgmei who couldn’t be a part of the 11 players, said practising with the North East United has definitely improved his performance. This midfielder expects to use this experience in his upcoming matches.

During the practice camp and coaching of the NorthEast United, Jianchun and Sampow practiced with the team. Sampow was the one who grabbed the attention of the team’s management and this has been shown when the Captaincy armband was handed to him for the first match.
