E-rickshaw driver-owners strike, big-procession tomorrow can cause severe traffic jams
The e-rickshaw owner-drivers are on the way to the movement. The decision of the movement was taken at a meeting of the e-rickshaw owner-drivers at Kirtan ground of Ashram Road yesterday. E-rickshaw Owners Association President Vishwapati Das and President of E-rickshaw Driver Association Debesh Das played the active role in the meeting. As decided in the meeting, the procession will start from Ashram Road adjacent to Vivekananda Road at 11 a.m. in the morning tomorrow.
The procession consisting of e-rickshaws will travel through the main roads of the city and will stop in front of deputy commissioner’s office, where they will stage a Dharna. The leaders firmly expressed that they are not at all afraid of getting arrested as it is the question of their livelihood. Naturally, there is a great possibility of the city’s traffic movement to crash tomorrow.
According to the current law, e-rickshaw movement in the city is banned. But for the last two years, the e-rickshaw has been moving in the city. the administration has not taken any action. It has become very popular as a transport vehicle coming from the suburbs to the main streets of the city as it is eco friendly as well as very cheap means of communication.
Auto owners’ organizations have been protesting for a long time, demanding to stop the e-rickshaw movement in the city. The administration initially played the role of silent observers in this regard. Eventually, the district transport department was busy taking care of this. Recently, in the urban areas, the e-rickshaw movement is being stopped by the administration and fined also collected.
It is noteworthy that the auto owner’s advisor is a youth leader in the BJP. On the other hand, our Municipality Chairman expressed clear views in support of the e-rickshaw movement in the city. But the general public thinks that if the limited number of rickshaws are allowed in the city, the common people will be benefited.
