Earthquake jolts Barak Valley and whole Northeast

Earthquake of magnitude 5.6 in Richter’s scale shook the whole of Northeast at 2:52 pm today. As per the Indian Met Department the epicenter of the quake occurred on 19-07-2019, 14:52:14 IST is “Lat:27.7 N & Long: 92.8 E, Depth: 10 Km, Region: Distt. East Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh.”

In Barak Valley, the residents did feel the tremors of the quake. A resident who was at his office in Rongpur said, “We were on the second floor of a three-story building and it was quite a big jolt. We rushed down the stairs, but I guess, by the time we reached down the jolt was over.”

Another resident living in Meherpur, Silchar said that she could feel anything. “We were watching a show on television and we only got to know about the quake once people started posting on Facebook. Later we tuned to a news channel and we saw reports there,” she informed. 

So far, there are no reports about any loss of properties or life due to the quake.
