Encounter in Cachar; Dacoit shot by Police officials, "Retaliatory controlled fire to stop him from escaping," Additional SP
And so, the encounter spree has reached Cachar. In a late-night encounter, Cachar Police fired at least three rounds at Taj Uddin, one of the most wanted dacoits in the region. The Police arrested Taj Uddin a few days back, and last night, he was taken to the Salchapra area to lead the Police officials to his gun and other partners.
The Police contingent led by Additional SP of Cachar, Subrata Sen and others followed the directions Taj Uddin shared and reached Salchapra. “There we went off-road and recovered the gun. A few moments later, he attacked me. Pushed me down and tried to escape. As a result, we had to open retaliatory controlled fire to stop him from escaping,” said Additional SP, Subrata Sen.
This marks the first encounter in Cachar in recent times. Taj Uddin is a dreaded criminal and as per the guidelines, he should have been chained on the way to Salchapra. When asked how a chained, handcuffed criminal could try to escape, Additional SP Sen replied, “It was not a road that we were walking on. We had to walk past the banana garden and other agricultural lands. Given the circumstances, we had to untie his legs.”
The Police sources informed that at least three rounds were fired at Taj Uddin. The convict has been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital with serious injuries in his leg.
