Eviction drive continues in Silchar; bulldozer runs over illegal establishments in National Highway
Continuing its fury towards encroachment, Silchar Municipal Board along with PWD officials today carried another eviction drive, at national highway road near Sunlite Hospital and demolished all the constructions which were made illegally over the government lands. All the shops that were constructed over drains were demolished.
It can be mentioned here that due to these illegal constructions over the drains, it gets blocked and creates water logging problem during the rainy season. For whole of the last months, the National Highway road near Ashram Road was inundated under drain water. Crossing this span of road was a nightmare for the locals.
Speaking to media, RB Chakrabarty, Executive Engineer of PWD, said that the eviction is being carried out after getting order from administration. “We discussed the water logging issue of this area with DC Cachar on which she ordered for the eviction. 3 magistrates are accompanying us in this drive today. From next week we will start work on the drains”
Rajesh Kumar Das, Commissioner of ward 26, replying to a query of Barak Bulletin said “Eviction is a continuous process. It is the High Court’s order to evict all encroachers. Here the notice was declared 2 months ago, and today it was executed.”
