Exclusive: BJP removes Uday Shankar Goswami as party's Cachar district president; Kaushik Rai to replace
In a shocking development in Assam, the state high command of BJP has decided to remove Uday Shankar Goswami (Memo Gosai) as the president of BJP’s Cachar district committee. As per information received, Kaushik Rai will replace Goswami as the new President of the district committee. Goswami was selected as the district president on January 1, 2018.
“I have not got any official intimation or notice from the state leadership yet, like everyone else, I found out about the developments through social media,” said Goswami, speaking to Barakbulletin.com.
“My close associates also called me to ask about this, and I told them what I am telling you all; I don’t even know if this news is true or not. It is very difficult for me to make a comment on something I am unaware of,” Goswami added.
When reporters asked him if he will accept the decision, he gave a very diplomatic answer, “See, I will first go and speak to my office bearers and the cadres, who work with me closely, and it is their sentiments that matter.”
Kanad Purkayastha, general secretary of Cachar BJP said, “This is party’s decision and we must all accept it wholeheartedly.” Purkayastha also mentioned that since it’s a selected post and not an elected one, the party can take such decision at any point of time.
Before 2019 Lok Sabha election, how would this decision shake the district BJP will be an interesting lead to follow.
