Cyclone Fani: District administration issues warning; flights cancelled

A notice has been issued by the Cachar district administration on “Fani” a cyclonic storm which is likely to wreak havoc in the eastern region, including Cachar district in Barak Valley.

The notice issued on Thursday said the cyclonic storm is likely to move north-eastwards within the next two to three days with maximum sustained wind speed and may affect Cachar district.

Whiring its way through the Bay of Bengal, Fani is likely to make landfall along the eastern seaboard, around midday on Friday, bringing with it a lot of devastation. Cyclone Fani will be the second cyclone to make landfall in India in 118 years.

As per a report from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, rainfall and thunderstorms in Silchar is expected till May 7.

Meanwhile, DGCA has suspended all flight operations from Kolkata airport between 9.30pm on Friday to 6 pm Saturday owing to approaching cyclone FANI. Accordingly flights to & fro from Silchar will be affected on the said time period.
