
Fake currency worth 8.4 lakh seized from Silchar - Mizoram road
In a joint operation Silchar Custom HQ and BSF IB managed to seize fake currency worth Rs 8,04,000. The security officials stopped a motorbike in Kabuganj area near the tri junction on Silchar – Aizawl road, as per the officials, there were three individuals riding on the motorbike of which one managed to run away while the other two is in custody.
The two in custody are identified as Ziabur Rehman Barbhuiya and Faizur Rehman, both of them are residents of Joidhonpur located in Lalaipur area in Dholai constituency. Speaking to our correspondent, accused Ziabur said that the cash was given to him by a man named Afzol who lives in Singhi area in the Dholai legislative assembly constituency. Ziabur and Faizur, according to them work as carpenters and Afzol was their customer. As per Zaibur, Afzol requested him to keep the cash at his warehouse for a couple of days, “He gave this to me a day before the election (April 17, 2019) and today morning he called me and asked me to accompany him to Mizoram House in Silchar where he was supposed to drop the consignment,” said Zaibur.
Afzol was also the third one riding on the motorbike which does not have registration number, but the moment he noticed security officials he ran away and is yet to be traced. Zaibu added that Afzol showed him the machine to produce fake currencies, “He told me that he can print as many as required. He also asked me to keep an eye if anyone needs notes,” added Zaibur.
Sources in Custom department tell us that the officials believe there is a nexus operating in the Silchar – Aizawl road and there could be more involved in this racket. As per sources, senior officials are looking at the case and a detailed investigation is expected.
