Female body found hanging in Shillongpatty; Could be a suicide or murder says Police

It is not at all a good morning for the residents of Shillongpatty in particular and Silchar in general. At around 5:30 AM in the morning a local resident saw a female dead-body tied with a cable in Shillongpatty – the heart of the town. “While I was on my morning walk I saw the body tied with a cable right next to the Shani Mandir right opposite old Nahaz,” says an eye witness.

Investigating Officer Bidhan Dhar went to the spot and recovered the body, “It is an unclaimed body and therefore we will keep the body in a morgue for 72 hours and search for their family members. We will also follow deputy commissioner or his office’s instruction in case the body stays unclaimed,” he says. Dhar refused to speculate or comment on the cause of the death, “I am not in a position to say if it is a suicide or a murder,” he asserts.

However, the Police noticed urine-like liquid in the crime scene, cut marks in victim’s tongue. An eyewitness says, “To me it looks like a murder. When I saw the body, the feet were touching the ground, the wire looked too fragile to take the body weight of the girl, overall it seemed like the murderer is trying to stage a suicide.”

As per Dhar’s estimate, the incident took place between 5:00 to 5:30 in the morning, “Patrolling was on till 5:00 AM in the morning and the officers on duty did not see any such incident. The Police got to know about the incident at around 5:30 – 5:45 AM, so we are estimating that the incident took place between 5:00 – 5:30,” says he.

While it is unclear if it is a murder or a suicide, the possibility of rape cannot be ruled out either. This incident has left many questions for the administration to figure out. Also, a dead-body at the heart of the town is a worrying sign for the people of Silchar.
