Fight against gambling; more raids more arrests, 7 behind bars

Since IPL 2018 Cachar administration has been tough on bookies and gamblers. Yesterday, Cachar Police raided into an Archery (Teer) Gambling racket and arrested seven in relation to conducting illegal gambling activities. The operation was based on a secret information following which several teams of Police officials raided multiple areas of Silchar simultaneously.

“In a drive against Teer gambling racket Cachar Police have successfully arrested seven persons and also recovered cash amount (Rs 2300) and other instruments of betting,” says Cachar Police in a media statement, adding, “The raids were conducted in Fatak Bazar, Ashram road and Rangpur respectively, and a total three cases has been registered in this regard.”

The names of the arrested individuals are:

1. Shibu dey, s/o Lt Gopal Dey, address – Rangpur

2. Idriah Ali, s/o Lt Fakaruddin Laskar, address – Berenga part 2

3. Pradip Sarma, s/o Lt Nandeswar Sarma, address – Rangpur part 4

4. Saurav Paul, s/o Sajal Pal, address – steamer ghat

5. Manna Lal Baidya, s/o Lt Phanindra Baidya, address – national highway

6. Gopal Ch Das, s/o Lt Dayal hari das, address – Ashram road

7. Montu Das, s/o Lt Kala Chand Das, address – Chencoorie Road
