Fight over financial debt; Panchayat road youth chops neighbour's genital
A case of pending financial debt between two neighbours led to a horrible incident. Biswajit Das, aged 26, had his genitals chopped off with a broken beer bottle by his neighbour named Sudipta Dasgupta. The family members of the victim have filed a case in the Rangirkhari police station over this allegation. After the incident, Biswajit was admitted to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital sustaining serious injuries. He had surgery there and doctors assured that there was no risk to his life.
The incident took place on Wednesday night in the Panchayat Road area of Silchar. Biswajit’s elder sister Sita Dey and sister-in-law Dipti Das filed a case at Rangirkhari police station on Thursday afternoon. They had alleged that a man named Sudipta Dasgupta had been asking Biswajit Das for money for quite some time. He had borrowed money earlier and has not repaid it yet. That night he called Biswajit from home and asked him to visit him, after an hour of which Biswajit returned in a bloody state. He said that Sudipta Dasgupta had attacked him and cut off his genitals with a broken beer bottle. At that moment, Biswajit’s condition was critical.
The Police said they had already visited the accused’s place but could not find Sudipta Dasgupta, who had already fled by then. The officer in charge of the case on behalf of Rangirkhari police station said, “We have received the news and went to the area, but the accused has not been found yet. The medical report of the victim Biswajit Das has been analysed. According to the family, the genital part of his body was hit with a glass bottle. We are hopeful the accused will be arrested soon. Meanwhile, the locales of the Panchayat road area have complained that since the start of the lockdown, gambling dens have been set up in the area in the evenings, secretly selling various types of illicit drugs as well. During the lockdown, people should stay at home. Whereas, during the evening at Das Colony and Panchayat Road areas, it is often witnessed that some people sitting in a circle and playing cards. And behind this card game, takes place illicit gambling and money transactions. Regarding this issue, often there are quarrels in the surrounding areas. They also urged the police officers to raid the area after dusk and shut down shops that deal in illicit drugs.
Biswajit Das’ mother passed away last year and his father died a few years ago. He got married two years ago and lives in the Panchayat road area with his wife and elder brother’s family. The two brothers go from door to door in the morning selling fish and in the evening sit in the neighbourhood with a cart of vegetables to sell.
