CBI continues its investigation in Panchgram Paper Mill

A large contingent of Central Bureau of Investigation officers entered HPC Paper Mill in Panchgram to investigate irregularities. Yesterday, as a shock to many employees in Panchgram Paper Mill a CBI delegation lead by DSP barged in the accounts department and started auditing various accounts. After analysing the financial records the team went in other departments too and as per sources the CBI officials are still conducting searches in the mill premises.

One of the biggest industrial institutes in South Assam the Panchgram Paper Mill was shuttered down on October 20, 2015. There are allegations of serious inconsistencies, scams and corruption, in fact, many still say that the Mill workers are jobless today because of the corrupt top bras. “We have been urging for a CBI enquiry for a long time now. There were about 1006 ton of paper in the stock when the Mill was locked why was that stock not cleared,” questions Kamal Chakraborty, spokesperson of Paper Mill Revival Action Committee. He adds, “Apart from that there was 50,000 ton bamboo, significant quantity of coal and lime. The Nagaon Paper Mill was functioning for a while after the Cachar Paper Mill was defunct and the raw materials could have been easily utilised. That did not happen and about Rs 77 crore was wasted.”

Since October 20, 2015 the Mill employees are having a very difficult time – deprived of their monthly wages.
