FIR lodged against Bhupen Borah at Silchar Sadar Police Station by BJP Yuva Morcha over derogatory remarks on Mahabharata

A recent comment by Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah equating love jihad with Krishna eloping with Rukmini in Mahabharata has created huge controversy in entire Assam. Already many FIRs have been lodged at various Police Stations of Assam against Borah’s remark. Today, the District BJP Yuva Morcha registered an FIR at Silchar Sadar Police Station against Borah. The members of the Yuva Morcha questioned if Borah is really a Hindu or not as he did “blasphemy” against Hindu Gods. They demanded the arrest of Borah at the earliest.

It maybe mentioned that on Monday, a man named Nazibur Rahman murdered his wife Sanghamitra Ghosh alongwith her father and mother in Golaghat. Condemning the incident, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma called the case “love jihad”, a theory as per which Hindu girls are entrapped into love by Muslim boys concealing their identity.

Reacting to Himanta’s claim, Assam Congress President Borah tried to make a parallel with the Hindu epic Mahabharata and said that everything is fair in love and war. To rationalise his argument he cited how Krishna eloped with Rukmini. His statement didn’t fit right with a huge section of Hindus as they believed he equated Krishna to a love jihadi.

Taking a jibe at Borah, Himanta countered him by saying that drawing parallels between love jihad and the love story of Krishna and Rukmini in Mahabharata was condemnable. He also said that the Government didn’t want to take any step against person on it’s own. But if the sentiments of Hindus were hurt and they filed FIRs at Police Stations then in that case he couldn’t stop the Police from taking legal action. Without naming Borah, he said that if someone filed an FIR against him then he would be arrested.
