Fire at Cotton warehouse in Fatak Bazar, Kalibari; Stock worth several crores burnt

A major fire broke at a multi-storey commercial building in Silchar’s Fatak Bazar area. Today evening, the locals of Kalibari Road – Shutki Patty area saw flames come out of a building. Immediately, the State Fire and Emergency services were informed and firemen rushed to the spot.

As per available information, the building owned by one Piyar Mazumdar was rented by commercial organisation United Commercial. In the two storey building, there are huge warehouses. On the ground floor, edible oil was stacked while the first floor had a Cotton workshop and warehouse. The workers used to stitch blankets and mattresses on the first floor.

Locals informed that they have heard sounds of multiple cylinder blasts. Some said that the fire broke at the kitchen that the tenants used to use.

Four engines from the Fire brigade rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The officials informed that the flames are now under control. The locals thanked for the prompt response from the Emergency services.
