Fire breaks out at Maa Medicine Centre in Silchar, Owner suffers damage worth 8-10 lakh rupees
A medicine shop named Maa Medicine Centre opposite Surana Motors on Hailakandi Road in Silchar was badly damaged due to a fire today. According to the locals, smoke was seen billowing out of the closed shop at around 1 pm. The owner of the shop, Govinda Chakraborty, was immediately informed of the incident but by the time he arrived, the smoke had turned into fire. Locals came forward and with the help of fire fighters and two fire engines, after 1 hour of intense combat, the fire was finally extinguished. Several shops were saved from the fire which had the potential to turn into an inferno.
However, the shop owner of Maa Medicine Centre suffered a lot of damage due to the fire amounting to around 8-10 lakh rupees. The cause of the fire is yet to be known, but it is suspected to have started from a short circuit. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. Locals appealed to the government for help.
Speaking to reporters the owner of the medicine shop said, “My shop was closed as today is Sunday. At around 1 pm, my neighbours saw smoke coming out of my shop and informed me. A large number of people alongwith fire fighters extinguished the fire. Though the fire was doused, still around 70% of my shop was burnt due to the fire. The damage is around 8-10 lakh rupees.”
