Fire destroys house in Karimganj village

A major blaze broke out and reportedly took a house into its clutches at Bhoribond village in Karimganj district late on Monday night.

The house belonged to Nejam Uddin, a daily wage earner by profession. The incident took place around 11:30 pm last night when Nejam and the other family members including Nejam’s wife Jilika Begum, their three children Sahin Ahmed, Dilowar Hussain and Jannata Begum were asleep, Nejam said.

Bhoribond falls under Nilambazar police station in Karimganj South constituency, along the river Longai, around 75km from Silchar.

Neighbours, who rescued them from the house, said they heard an explosion after which they came out of their house. They saw flames coming out from Nejam’s house following which they rushed and helped the family get out of the house. The family members suffered minor injuries. A large portion of Nejam’s hand was burnt.

Fire-fighters reached the spot after sometime, but all the items in the house were destroyed. Nejam along with few residents tried to take valuable items out, but could not do so with flames engulfing the house from all sides. The adjacent house was saved from the blaze by the fire-fighters. It could not be known how the fire broke out, as per last reports available.

On Tuesday, a local BJP worker Nasir Uddin met Nejam and provided financial assistance to the family. The total amount of loss in the incident was not ascertained, as per last reports available.
