Fire Guts Shop, Cowshed in Udharbond

A shop along with a cowshed was completely gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Udharbond on Wednesday evening (December 24). The fair is said to have caught from a pile of hay kept on the side of the road. The flames spreaded quick which engulfed the shop of a Durganagar local.

The incident occurred around 6:30 pm at Doyapur Road in Durganagar Part 6 under Udharbond Police Station in Cachar. The affected properties belonged to Noor Alam Laskar, son of Badrul Alam Laskar.

According to locals, flames were first noticed suddenly rising from the shop, prompting residents to raise an alarm.

Soon after, the Udharbond Police Station was informed. A fire tender rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly an hour. Quick response from fire tenders saved neighbouring homes from the blaze.

Although no casualties were reported, the shop and cowshed were reduced to ashes. Locals suspect that the fire may have broken out due to hay kept along the roadside for feeding cattle.
