Fire opposite Big Bazar in Silchar; Fire Brigade's prompt response restricted damage to one store.
At around 7:30 in the morning, locals saw flames coming out of a commercial complex opposite Goldighi Mall in Silchar. The Fire Brigade was immediately informed and three engines along with SDRF Jawans reached the spot in no time.
Well equipped firemen managed to beat the smoke and climb up the narrow stairs to reach the root of the fire. The flames were coming out of Silchar Stationeries and Stores a very renowned computer peripherals and electronic appliances shop in Silchar. The proprietor of the store Rajesh popularly known as Raju Bhaiyaa is out of station with his family. His relatives reached the spot and were shocked at the sudden devastation.
In charge of the operation informed that the fire was inside a locked store and that is why it took some time for the officials to break open. “The iron shutter was down and locked and at the same time there were paper packaged items in the store and that is why the fire was spreading fast. We managed to break it open and bring the fire under control. Most importantly it was restricted to only one store. It took about an hour to control the fire completely,” said the official.
A short circuit is speculated to be the cause of the fire. It has been confirmed that no human life was harmed by the fire.
