First Japanese Encephalitis death in Cachar; Dholai man declared dead due to JE

The menace of Japanese Encephalitis continues to spread further in Assam and especially Barak Valley. As earlier reported earlier by Barak Bulletin, Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) has confirmed the first death due to JE in the hospital. Further NHM Assam confirmed that two individuals from Karimganj passed away due to the same disease.

What comes as a massive breaking news that Barak Bulletin is in a position to confirm the first death due to JE in Cachar district.

Valuable sources in SMCH top management have confirmed that one patient admitted on July 10 died on July 13 at 2.10 pm in SMCH. The cause of death as reported by the doctors stood to be “Viral Meningitis”.

However, the Nodal Officer as per the protocol sent the report of the male patient from Bhuvan Dhar Dholai to the death audit board. It has been confirmed by the audit board as death due to JE.

This marks the first confirmed hospitalised death due to JE in Cachar.

As per a PTI report earlier this afternoon, three patients in Guwahati also died of JE. It reported, “Two persons in Karimganj and one in Sivasagar have died due to JE during the last 24 hours, the National Health Mission, Assam, said in the statement.”

Besides, three fresh cases of JE were detected in Dhemaji, two in Morigaon and one in Dibrugarh, it said.

With these deaths the toll has crossed 17 in the state.
