
Five Arrested in Silchar Theft Bust, Rs 73,500 Cash Seized
Cachar Police arrested five alleged thieves during a late-night raid conducted by a team from Sadar Police Station on Monday (April 6), acting on credible information. A large number of stolen items, including mobile phones, laptops, cash, and jewellery, were recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Arifuddin Laskar (35) of Madhurbad Khalarpar Part 10, Abdul Basit (36) of Ghungur Daspara, Rahul Sarkar (25) of Meherpur Botertal, Pradip Das (27) of Shibbari Road, and Jaydeep Das (31) of Ghungur Daspara. All are residents under Silchar Police Station in Cachar district.
According to police sources, the team conducted the raid and successfully apprehended all five suspects. Following their arrest, lawful action has been initiated against them.
Police recovered 47 smartphones, four laptops, and one Lenovo tablet during the operation. Cash amounting to Rs 73,500 was also seized. In addition, gold and silver ornaments were recovered, including a pair of gold earrings, one gold finger ring, one gold nose ring, two pairs of silver anklets, three silver rings, and one silver chain.
Other items seized include four e-rickshaw chargers, three e-rickshaw tyres, two hydraulic lock cutters, and one inverter machine. Various tools such as wrenches, hammers, and screwdrivers, allegedly used for breaking doors during thefts, were also recovered.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in multiple theft cases across Silchar town. Police said further investigation is underway to verify their links to other cases and to trace additional stolen property.
