Five players from Cachar made it to the Indian National Futsal squad; Brajkishore Singha Head Coach
Five players from Lakhipur of the Cachar district got a place in the Indian team for the Junior Futsal Cup. Brajkishore Singha of Lakhipur has also been selected as the coach of the team. The world’s largest junior futsal tournament will start in Italy from June 26 and will continue till July 3. The Secretary of the Indian Futsal Federation BD Varma will be the manager of the team. Five of the announced 12-member team are from Lakhipur of the Cachar district. They are Nangam Kanba, Manisana Singha, Deepak Singha, Dayamanta Singha and Rahul Das. It is yet to be decided when the Indian team will leave for Italy.
The International Futsal Championship was scheduled to be held in Lisbon, Portugal in June this year. However, it got postponed due to the Corona pandemic. The Indian Futsal Federation had already announced the team for the championship by then. Hence, that very squad has been left unchanged for the Junior Futsal Cup this time. The Indian team has been in practice since the beginning of this year to participate in the international tournament. However, the tournament in Lisbon got eventually postponed due to the pandemic.
The 13th National Football Championship was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan in December last year. A total of 24 states took part in that competition. Assam ended up as the runner-up after performing quite well in the championship. That was basically the turning point for state futsal. Over time, Futsal gradually got popular all over India. The Futsal tournaments are being held in different cities of the country. And over time, the Indian team is also taking part in futsal tournaments on foreign soil now. On the one hand, while futsal is on the rise in our country, the Cachar district is also playing an important role in this process, particularly Lakhipur. And now, 5 players from Lakhipur have made it to the national team as well.
The Assam Soccer Futsal Association was formed in Lakhipur during the lockdown last year. The association debuted itself on July 5 and its head office was set up in the Lakhipur village itself. The village has become the largest supply line for Indian futsal in the last 10 months. In recent times, Assam has performed well in national-level tournaments. Most of the players in the state team of futsal players now are from the Cachar district.
