Flood Victims Protest at Katigorah Circle Office Over Lack of Relief

Hundreds of flood victims from Katigorah gathered outside the Circle Officer’s office in a heated protest, demanding immediate relief and assistance. The demonstrators, hailing from six village panchayats including Mahadevpur and Rongpur, surrounded the office, chanting slogans against the administration and local MLA.

Recently, persistent rainfall has inundated various areas of the Barak Valley, particularly affecting rural regions. The floods have caused significant destruction of property, leaving many impoverished families in distress and without adequate shelter or food.

The affected residents, who have been struggling without basic necessities, sought information on the relief distribution process from the Katigorah Circle Office. The agitated crowd highlighted the administration’s failure to provide aid during previous floods and expressed their frustration at the ongoing neglect.

Geeta Rani Das from Rongpur Ward No. 3 shared her plight, stating that her house was severely damaged by the flood. Despite her dire situation, she has not received any relief, additionally she questioned why she was excluded from the “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana” housing scheme. “I have to beg to eat,” she lamented, asking why she isn’t being assisted while others are.

In response to the gathering crowd, Katigorah Circle Officer Dr. Robert Toulor explained that people had gathered to inquire about the relief process. He assured that assessments are being conducted to identify those most in need, and relief distribution would commence accordingly.
