Former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee is no more

84-year-old, Pranab Mukherjee is no more. Former president, a Congress Stalwart, Mukherjee was conferred for Bharat Ratna last year.

According to an Indian Express report, the condition of Mukherjee deteriorated on today morning and he has suffered a septic shock due to his lung infection. The report quoted the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital where former president was admitted.

The news of his demise was broken by his son Abhijit Mukherjee on Tuesday on Twitter. The tweet read, “With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers, duas & prarthanas from people throughout India !I thank all of You”

Prime Minister of India who took oath when Pranab Mukherjee was the president of the country also expressed his condolences on the micro-blogging site. The PM wrote, “India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society.”

A former colleague of Pranab Mukherjee in Congress and now the Health minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted. “A legend leaves us! Pranab Da, one of modern India’s finest leaders, a statesman and a visionary, is no more with us. His legacy shall be something to cherish forever. My condolences.”
