Free COVID testing might not be available for too long; DC Jalli urges people to get tested
Undergoing COVID test on time can be the difference between life and death. Despite opening testing booths in every ward in Silchar, the turnout has been low. The Cachar administration is tearing its hair to figure out a way to get people tested on time. Recently, the number of deaths has increased significantly in the district, and in most cases, delayed detection is the reason.
According to the administration, visiting a healthcare facility is the last option that the people are choosing whereas it should be the first one. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli had called for a press conference earlier today. She has announced a set of measures the administration is rolling out in order to up the number of tests.
She announced the start of a web portal www.cachartesting.clapia.com for online registration for swab testing. “If 30 people register for the test, mobile team will be sent to that locality for conducting tests,” said Keerthi Jalli. She appealed to the members of housing societies to rise up to the occasion and avail the facility.
“The people who are dying, most of them are elderly citizens. Now, they are not stepping out or roaming around in the markets. It is the younger residents, unknowingly carrying the infection home. It is important to test on time so that they know they are carrying the infection and voluntarily isolate themselves for the safety of their family members,” said DC Jalli.
The deputy commissioner added that it is absolutely fine if they want to stay at home isolation, but her view is, for the larger benefit of the society, one must be aware and informed if he or she is carrying the virus.
She added, “In other states, people need to pay to get tested. In Assam, there is no payment associated with COVID tests. However, COVID testing might not be available for free for too long. So, I request the people of Cachar to use the opportunity and get tested as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, the administration is starting a fever survey in every ward. “This step has been taken to make sure that people don’t remain untreated,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner, Health, Sumit Sattavan.
