Gauhati HC grants Subodh Biswas bail; The Bengali activist is prime accused of Silapathar AASU attack case
After around one and half year, the Gauhati High Court has granted bail to Subodh Biswas- the prime accused in the Silapathar attack case.
Biswas is the president of Nikhil Bharat Bengali Udbastu Samannay Samiti (NBBUSS), a lesser known Nagpur-based Hindu Bengali outfit.
As per allegations, Biswas had inspired a mob to attack the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) office by his hate speech on March 6, 2017. He was charged with abetting riots and fuelling enmity between two communities.
Biswas was arrested on March 22 from Bajitpur area of North-24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
His bail petition had been rejected on several instances earlier. Court of Justice Mir Alfaz finally granted him bail today.
