GC College’s TDC student tests positive after attending Offline Examination

Ignoring the agitation of a section of students, Assam University Silchar decided to go ahead with the offline examinations. All odd semester students studying in colleges affiliated with the Assam University are taking the tests sitting at their respective centres.

A student of GC College in Silchar had appeared for the examination on April 12. He is pursuing graduation and is Chemistry honours student. “After appearing for examination on April 12, I started feeling unwell. Next morning I started feeling feverish and gradually I lost my taste. So, I went to centre and got my sample tested on Rapid Antigen Test kit. Today, I got my reports and it’s positive,” said the student.

Dr Suman Bhowmik, Katigorah PHC confirmed that the student has tested positive for COVID-19.

He is son of a government teacher. His mother also got tested for COVID, and he confirmed she has tested negative. He is a resident of Kalain and travels to GC College to sit for his offline tests.

Now, how the University authority reacts to this remains to be seen. Controller of examination, Suprabir Dutta said that preventive measures will be taken. He threw the ball at College administration’s court and said Assam University cannot dictate terms to a college under the state government.

“What happens during Pox can be followed in this case too. The student can sit in a separate room and take the test. GC College administration must follow the protocols as per the State Government of Assam,” said Suprabir Dutta.
