Girl found dead under mysterious circumstances in Dholai village; probe initiated

The dead body of a 22-year-old girl was recovered under mysterious circumstances from Rajghat village under Dholai constituency in Cachar district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Rimpi Roy, was the daughter of late Brojolal Roy.

Sources said the body, which was lying near a cremation ground at Rajghat, was seen by local people early in the morning. Thereafter, the police was informed, following which a team of officials reached the spot and sent the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.

Locals shared that Rimpi, who had lost her parents long back, used to stay alone at Channighat village. Her elder sister is married, while elder brother lives in Shillong for business purpose. Bulk of the residents suspect that Rimpi has been murdered.

Meanwhile, a girl of Frenchnagar village was found in Rimpi’s house. The girl told villagers that Rimpi, who was known to her, had brought her home on Tuesday evening, and insisted her to stay back for the night.

The girl said she slept around 10 pm and Rimpi was talking to someone over the phone many times that night. However, she was completely clueless how the incident happened.

Another source shared that two unidentified youths were spotted by some people near a temple at Channighat around 8:30pm on Tuesday night. Their body language was said to be suspicious.

The in-charge of Lailapur police patrol post M. Babu Singh stated that a probe has been initiated into the incident. He hoped that the mystery behind the death would be deciphered soon.
