In a shocking incident in Silchar, a customer found an empty packet of gutkha in a soft drink served in an eatery at Goldighi Mall on Wednesday.
Kanwaljeet Choudhury, a resident of Sonai Road said the incident took place around 7:15pm on Wednesday evening, when he was with some of his friends in an eatery – ‘The Kitchen’, on the third floor of the Mall. They ordered three soft drink bottles and one of them contained an empty gutkha packet. He alleged, “We consumed some amounts without noticing at first, and when the bottle was about to finish, one of my friends spotted it.”
He further added that they duly informed about the same to the store proprietor and the eatery staff, who in turn looked extremely ‘surprised’.
Kanwaljeet posted about the incident on social media last night and it soon started making rounds with numerous users sharing it and expressing their displeasure over the incident. He is now set to file a complaint with the consumers’ forum.
Sahil Choudhury, who was present with Kanwaljeet among others, stressed that the matter be enquired thoroughly so that such incidents do not happen in the future.
Manoj Talukdar, proprietor of The Kitchen confirmed about the incident to Barak Bulletin today and shared that he had taken up the matter with the distributor of the soft drink company.
He added that the distributor shared that the bottles are packed from the company itself and they (distributor) directly send the same to vendors/shops.
“Necessary steps will be taken so that such incidents never happen again. We will stop purchasing that particular soft drink from the company, if needed,” he added.
Prasenjit Dutta, a sales executive with the soft drink company (who works under the distributor concerned), said the company had already been informed about the matter through a mail but a response is yet to come. “Presently, it cannot be said who’s responsible for this. Let’s see what action the company takes in connection with the incident.”
Biplob Goswami, general secretary of Grahak Suraksha Samiti, told us that he was not completely aware about the matter. He said he would research about it first and then speak to the authorities concerned.
