Government announces dry day on Dashami, prohibits sale and consumption of alcohol
The Durga Puja celebration has taken the entire town by a storm. In a defining movement, the District Magistrate of Cachar, Silchar has announced a dry day in the city.
A notice dated October 15 by the authority read, “In exercise of the power conferred U/S 52 (I) of Assam Excise Act, 2000, I Dr S Lakshmanan, IAS, District Magistrate, Cachar declare closure of all liquor licensed premises in Cachar district on 19th October ’18 (Friday) for preservation of public peace in the ensuing “Bijoya Dashami”.
The notice further states that all wholesale warehouses, shops and clubs will be shut on the day. No sale/ service consumption shall be allowed. Violation of the rule is said to bring strict punishment.
