Governor's notification: Mini Secretariat in Silchar becomes effective immediately
Silchar will get a Mini Secretariat and that will expedite the developmental work in progress in Barak Valley. This is what the chief minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal had promised at the beginning of his term. Land has been acquired in Srikona to construct the Mini Secretariat, however, the contractors are likely to miss their deadline.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet has already approved the decision to make a Mini Secretariat operational in Silchar. Yesterday, the governor of Assam has notified the Mini Secretariat – Barak Valley in Silchar.
In an order signed by the MS Manaivannan Commissioner and Secretary – General Administration Department, it is stated, “In the interest of Public Service and to bring the administration to the doorstep of the citizens and for execution, supervision and monitoring of all developmental works of Barak Valley, the Governor of Assam is pleased to notify a Mini Secretariat, Barak Valley at Siichar. This will come into force with immediate effect.”
For the time being, the new Circle Office located near the Silchar Municipality Board’s office in Sadarghat, will house the Mini Secretariat. The building is under construction but most of the work has been completed.
In November 2020, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jalli and Officer on Special Duty to Chief Minister, Shekhar Dey visited the Mini Secretariat at Srikona to assess the progress of work. Executive Engineer, PWD Building, Ganesh Bora and SDO, Ranabir Paul also accompanied them during their visit.
After conducting a joint inspection, Deputy Commissioner, Jalli had expressed her displeasure over the tardy progress of work and strongly instructed the officials to complete the earth-filling work and construction of the boundary wall of the Mini Secretariat by December 2020.
It is pertinent to mention that the state government has already sanctioned Rs 4 crore for earth filling and construction of the boundary wall of the Mini Secretariat. Akash Enterprise of Silchar has been awarded the contract.
